Accommodation

Most of the hotels in Santos are within a maximum of 1 Km from the conference convention center. Ten to fifteen minutes of walking will be the most pleasant way to get there. The hotel rates range from USD20 to USD90 (16 to 70 Euros) per day. There are also lodging houses ('pensões' in Portuguese) for approximately USD12 (9 Euros) per day (including breakfast).

Click here to access the website of our official travel agency (MendesTur) for room reservation in hotels. The rates are in Brazilian Real (1 USD ~ 2.1 Reais; 1 Euro ~ 2.7 Reais).

All the conference speakers will stay in Parque Balneário Hotel (the first in the list). The first three hotels in the list are the best ones in Santos and the others are also good.

Click here for a list of lodging houses with rooms for USD12 (9 Euros) per day. This list is in Portuguese (the owners of the lodging houses don't speak English). If you don't speak Portuguese and want to stay there, contact us to help you with the room reservation.

Travel

Santos is located on the island of São Vicente in the Atlantic just off the mainland. It is 68 km SE of the city of São Paulo, with which it is linked by modern highways.

The closest international Airport is Grarulhos (GRU) in São Paulo, the main gateway to Brazil. International travelers will arrive there and take a bus from the airport to Santos, either directly to your hotel or the convention center. This non-stop trip will last less than two hours.

The conference will start on Thursday afternoon. If you are coming from another country and have a tight schedule, you can arrive at São Paulo airport on Thursday early morning (before 9 AM) and leave on Monday night (or even on Sunday night if you need but you will miss the conference dinner). However, we strongly recommend staying for a little more and enjoying Santos or other cities in Brazil. Contact our official travel agency (MendesTur) for information about tourism in Brazil. To get a discount on the airline ticket from United States to Brazil, contact TAM - Linhas Aéreas by phone in US (305)477-5997 r. 272, contact Ana Maria Preteli.

Information from the Brazil Tourism Office

As a matter of reciprocity a visa is required for citizens from some countries (US, Canada, etc.) wishing to visit Brazil. Check here if you need a VISA to enter Brazil for tourism purposes. If you need VISA, a tourist VISA is sufficient to come to Brazil for the conference and sometimes it is possible to apply by mail. However, confirm that with the Brazilian consulate of your jurisdiction. Click here for more information on how to obtain a VISA to Brazil or contact a Brazilian consulate in US or in other countries.

Sightseeing and Visiting

We contacted a tourism company, Central de Receptivo, e-mail, to program many sightseeings in Santos and vicinity. There are seven programs (with bilingual guides) that last about 3 to 4 hours (including a flight with delta wing or paragliding) and one visit to an indigenous tribe (for 6 to 8 hours). The prices range from 40 to 200 Reais per person and the sightseeings are available before, during, and after the conference (but don't forget about our scientific program!). The Central de Receptivo will have a booth in our conference. If you need to program a visit before the conference dates, email them. Of course, there are many other places to visit in Brazil. Take a look at BrazilTour for more information. There are two important events happening here in Brazil that you may want to go: - The PanAmerican Games in Rio de Janeiro, July 13-29. - 25th International Society of Biomechanics (ISBS) Conference, Ouro Preto, August 23-27.
